Check out the group rides page for more information on rides. On todays ride to Great Falls and back we saw at least five - six separate group rides going on in addiiton to our own.
Cheers!
Group rides this winter are in full swing as people's time off the bike has finally subsided and people are gearing up for the next season. If you are new to the area or have never been on one of the group rides before, this is a great time to begin! The paces of many of the rides are much slower than they will be in spring time as most cyclists are insistent upon accumulating "base miles." Base miles are ridden at a slower pace and most experienced cyclists will avoid taxing efforts.

Stumbled across this video today and it's amazing what the power of a bicycle can do for someone. Think about your own daily commute to work. Walking vs. riding. There really is no comparison when it comes to the efficiency and speed of riding as opposed to biking. Love the movement this organization has going on right now. World Bicycle Relief is empowering people through fostering sustainable development and social enterprise. More can be found at their website here. Also check out their latest video below: If you want to consider supporting their initiative you can do so here. Every dollar donated is matched 1 to 1!
Bicycling magazine came out with an article recently called 10 training fundamentals and simply put ... you should read it. The article can be found here.
Preseason is in full swing now. Hop on your bike, explore some new places, do it with some friends, and recapture your love of cycling. Fall is now upon us and many of the rides in DC have been postponed until spring time. We will periodically update our website with information we receive about the group rides; however, we always encourage you to check the official ride page to verify the ride is still Active. Two notable rides which will resume in the spring time are:
1. Freshbikes - VA 2. Downtown DC Breakaway Ride - DC Both the 7am and 10am rides (Saturday - DC/MD) progress all year long. If you have additional updates you would like to send to us please notify us in our feedback section. Pictures are becoming a little more scarce as the road racing season begins to fade out and cross season is right around the corner. However, some photos from this past weekend's races can be found below:
Every cyclist in the Washington, DC / NOVA / MD regions are subject to laws of the road when out on a group ride. Most cyclists however, do not have a clear understanding of their rights and restrictions while out riding. Therefore, we've enlisted the help and knowledge of a lawyer in the area to speak on the matter (he just so happens to be an avid and passionate cyclist as well). Check out his insight to the regulations every cyclist should know when biking in the area:
It goes without saying ... everyone in the cycling community can rejoice upon the announcement Jens Voigt will be joining Trek for one more year! Shut. Up. LEGS! After reading some of the messages on the MABRA list serve today regarding interpretations of the TT passing and drafting rules, and then re-reading the messages to understand what people were saying, we thought it would be beneficial to clarify the proper interpretation of the rules:
With cycling season nearing its completion, and championship season of triathlons upon us, we thought some of you triathletes could use some pointers on how to better prepare yourself for the open water swimming portion of your triathlon. Any of you cyclists looking for some solid cross training during the off season ... You won't find any other sport which have a large aerobic benefit, will not structurally damage your body (impact forces of running), and will build your core strength quicker than swimming will. Give it a try.
One of the largest races in the north east during the month of August is the Tour de Millersburg. A number of MABRA riders rolled up to PA this year to participate in the race. The MABRA hill climb championships were also this weekend bringing out the best of our climbers for some fun and serious. Check out the photographers below who were able to capture some of the action from this past weekend:
